ARE ZODIAC SIGNS TRUE TO YOUR PERSONALITY?

Are zodiac signs true to your personality? For many people, the answer is an emphatic yes, while for others, it’s simply a shrug. For millennia, humans have turned to the sky to gain a sense of greater understanding of their beliefs, their concepts of spirituality, and to gain a greater understanding of the mysteries of the universe. So what does your zodiac sign have to do with your personality or your life?

History of the zodiac

According to the NASA Space Science Education Consortium, the influence of stars and their positions in the sky dates back as the days of the caveman, where cave art displays the concept that ancient Roman or Greek gods, objects, and animals contain a spiritual essence that has an influence on humans. Writings and tablets dating back to ancient Egyptian and Babylonian times demonstrate that the patterns of stars or constellations have influenced numerous cultures over time.

The word zodiac originates from the Greek meaning “a sculpted animal figure”. Signs of the zodiac originally represented important Greek mythological figures, dating back more than 4,000 years. The appearance of certain constellations predicted the change of seasons and eventually developed as part of their overviews regarding religion.

The names of the constellations identified in Western societies today originate from the 12 Olympian gods found in Greek mythology. Each sign is influenced by a particular star or planet. Interestingly, stars and planets are typically named after famous figures from ancient Roman mythology, which have their equivalent meanings in Greek mythology.

What are zodiac signs?

Each zodiac sign represents a constellation that is symbolized by an animal, concept, or individual from ancient times. For example:

  • Taurus - the bull. The bull represents the concept of fertility, ruled by the planet Venus.
  • Aries – the ram. The ram symbolizes beginnings or rebirth, ruled by the planet Mars.
  • Gemini – the twins. They symbolically imply a duality of sorts, or the physical body and the soul, ruled by the planet Mercury.
  • Cancer – the crab, symbolizing family and loyalty, ruled by the moon.
  • Leo – the lion. The lion symbolizes life force, ruled by the sun.
  • Virgo – the female form or virgin, symbolizes labor and practicality, rules by the planet Mercury.
  • Libra – the scales, representing harmony or balance, ruled by Venus.
  • Scorpio – the scorpion, representing rebirth as well as destruction, ruled by Pluto and Mars.
  • Sagittarius – the archer, symbolizes the state of higher consciousness, represented by an arrow and ruled by the planet Jupiter.
  • Capricorn – the horned goat or mythical sea goat, symbolizes wisdom and is ruled by Saturn.
  • Aquarius – the water bearer, symbolizes the concepts of wisdom and revolution, ruled by Uranus.
  • Pisces – two fish attached by a cord, represented swimming in opposite directions, symbolizing opposition or division, ruled by Jupiter and Neptune.

Each of the zodiac signs encompasses an element, certain character qualities, strengths and weaknesses, as well as common personality traits.

Zodiac signs and personality

Zodiac signs are based on birth month. It is perceived that those born on either edge of one sign may also have characteristics of both months. Generally speaking though, Geminis are typically born between May 21 and June 20, while Scorpios are typically born between October 23 and November 21. The practice of dividing the zodiac into 12 equal signs originated with the ancient Babylonians in approximately 1500 BC, and the great astronomer, Ptolemy, furthered the popularity of the practice of ‘assigning’ zodiac signs to individuals.

It should be noted that the zodiac signs are further divided or categorized based on the four primary elements of fire, water, air, and earth. For example, the ‘Fire’ zodiac signs include Leo, Aries, and Sagittarius. Those born under those zodiac signs are more likely to be individuals who have clear aspirations and goals and tend to be more physical in nature. They are typically competitive and eager to explore new things.

‘Air’ zodiac signs include Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, and are typically described as deep thinkers. They tend to express themselves intellectually and with kindness, and are also known as fair-minded and diplomatic.

‘Earth’ zodiac signs include Virgo, Capricorn, and Taurus. Such individuals commonly use their physical senses to rejuvenate or restore themselves, and tend to express themselves through the material world. They’re tenacious and independent, gentle yet practical, and creative and often sensual in nature.

Those born under the sign of Cancer are perceived to be sentimental, yet protective and intuitive, while Scorpios are typically stubborn yet passionate and brave. Pisces are naturally artistic, empathetic, and wise.

Can zodiac signs be true to your personality? Surprisingly to some, they often are. This is not to suggest that an individual cannot display the traits or personalities of other signs of the zodiac, but merely that those born under a certain sign tend to have traits and characteristics that personify the strongest driving forces of how they view and move through life.
